App Research

Artlens (The cleveland museum of art)
Advantages:
-Informative and interactive. Provides a good amount of information about artworks and artists in an interactive approach.
-Instant access to information about artwork/artist by using the camera function on your phone. Immediately recognises the images when the user points the camera at a certain artwork.
-It may enhance the user experience as they are not just traditionally walking around. The app may also encourage the audience to engage with the artwork.

Disadvantages:
-App is hard to navigate through if you're not familiar with the space.
-It works better on bigger screens e.g. an ipad. It makes it more difficult to see the artwork details when it is restricted down to an iphone size.
-A 2 hour download wait to download 14941 content. This might be an issue if the user wants to download this app when they arrive at the space. Downloading would be an issue if there is no wifi available. This issue could be possibly solved if the museum supplied ipads/tablets that have the app installed beforehand.
-The human experience factor is as the user is looking at the artwork through a screen (window).

The Met
Advantages:
-Live updates: e.g. latest events, what's on today
-Colour sections to separate information.

Disadvantages:
-Doesn't appear to work/load without the internet. Maybe a problem if the museum doesn't supply free wifi.
-Constantly have to scroll down to find information. A bit inconvenient for the user.
-Map is a bit hard to interpret. May be useful to include some keys to show users what the icons mean. Everything is very cluttered.

MOMA
Advantages:
-Acts like an alternative gallery.
-Lots of visuals
-Audio format. Users may not like reading or have difficult reading so it's nice to have this option (inclusive).
-Navigation bar: sorted categories for easy navigation.
-Kids section.
-Directory to show what paintings are on what floors.

Disadvantages:
-Home page could be simplified?
Adding a home button may be useful when the user is on another category.

Rijks Museum
Advantages:
-Language options which are helpful for tourists (Inclusive)
-Family quest helps engage audience with artwork.
-Guided tour option is available.
-Option to search up more information about the artwork by entering a 3 digit code placed next to the artwork.

Disadvantages:
-Default language is not in english.
-Limited amount of information provided to the user. They will need to know the 3 digit codes to find information about a specific artwork.

British Museum
Advantages:
-Landscape and portrait option is available.
-Sections are clearly set out for easy usability.
-Interactive map. User can click on the space and see what artworks are being displayed there.
-Quiz section to encourage the user to look at the artwork.

Disadvantages:
-Constant window popup (e.g. like us on facebook). It gets frustrating.
-There are some functions that are locked so the user will have to get the full version.
